btray.exe preventing shutdown

Hello Folks,

I have Windows 7 Professional.

When trying to shutdown my computer, the message comes up (waiting for) btray. This program is preventing Windows from shutting down.

When this occurs, the FBackup Tray appears but it is empty. Any thoughts on what is causing this or any additional information needed?

Right now I have to force a shutdown or kill the btray.exe process before executing a shutdown, which is annoying to say the least.

Thanks for any help.

I had a potentially similar issue yesterday. Btray.exe was consuming about 20% of the capacity of my laptop's two processors although FBackup was not running. I had to shut it down to prevent stuttering audio during other activities that were being limited by processor utilization.

Today Windows asked me to allow FBackup to make changes to my computer and required admin authorization when I tried to start the app. Then error message appeared asking to restart the IPC server. FBackup would not complete the startup regardless of the choice on the dialog box. I am sending a zipped folder with the error message and last few logs for your review.

Hi,

Please open FBackup, go to File->Options.
On Startup page, uncheck the "Show tray icon" and press OK.
Do you still have the problem?

In my case the app will not start.

In the past this issue has cured itself but not so far. A dialog box recommending a new version of FBackup popped up.

Now, after rebooting and opening FBackup again, a new dialog box pops up saying "FBackup has stopped working." Microsoft is looking for a solution and will notify me.

Then the IPC error popped up again. After closing the app, surprisingly Btray.exe is in the list of processes but consuming no CPU cycles.

It seems that as soon as I think I understand what is going on ... something changes. Now FBackup started when the icon was selected. It asked to install the newest version (230) which I selected. I then did a manual backup (even though the daily mirror ran with errors) to delete my "trash" files that had been backed up earlier while Audacity was running. The backup completed with the same four warnings as usual; i.e. --

[11/6/2013 4:16:41 PM] Warning: Skipping file C:\Users\Others\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\libraries\Documents.library-ms
Source error (code 5). Access is denied. (C:\Users\Others\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\libraries\Documents.library-ms).

I then unchecked the tray option and installed the update to 230. At this point the new version is running, btray.exe is in the process list (even though the tray option is unchecked) but is taking no cycles. I guess that is progress. Should I end the process manually and then see if it is restored with the start up of the FBackup app?

Hi,

You can try that.

I ended the process tree and btray has not reappeared. Any reason that it should have been taking 20% of the processor utilization the other day when Fbackup was not running?

I've just made that change. Since it is not always a re-occurring issue, I'll have to wait to see if that made a difference.

Any ideas on how to get rid of these errors on libraries. ---

Hi,

Can you manually copy this file using Windows Explorer?
C:\Users\Others\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\libraries\Documents.library-ms
