We've released FBackup 4.8, a new major version that contains several new features and fixes. We highly recommend updating to the latest version so download it from http://www.fbackup.com/quick-download.php
What's changed in FBackup 4.8.276:

New: Important backup speed enhancements
New: Improved source filter matching
New: Faster file access functions while archiving
Fix: Restoring a file from a mirror with zip had a different modified time.

You can download the new version here: http://www.fbackup.com/quick-download.php
What's important in version 4.8 is the speed enhancements, as compared to previous versions FBackup can now back-up 40% faster. You will notice the speed improvement when running filtered backups (with compression) for large number of files. In our comparison tests we used a backup job that had 15k files, filtered sources and FULL was the backup type. The backup finished with FBackup 4.8 almost 40% faster than with FBackup 4.7, so a noticeable difference, this is why we recommend updating it.

Upgraded successfully. However Help/About shows 4.8.275 instead of 4.8.276.

Unsuccessful upgrade from 4.7. Two files could not be replaced/overwritten or what ever is needed to replace the two files. DeleteFile fail code: 5, fbaSched.exe and Starburn.dll. I've made three attempts, re downloaded the upgrade executable and have the same results. First ever problem installing updates of fbackup4. Solutions?

Hi,
Please restart the computer or simply close any fbackup process from Task Manager and try again.

Starting a few builds previous, upgrades were unsuccessful. To fix the problem, disable scheduler.
Go to the backup (left panel) right click, click Properties/Scheduler, then click Active....so there's no check in the box. Exit the program.
After the install, redo the process and click it back on.
Works for me.

A new build is available, FBackup 4.8.278, which includes several fixes as detailed below:

Fix: Password was encrypted twice in some cases, causing problems on restore
Fix: After the second execution of a fast mirror backup an error might occur when testing even if the modified files were correctly backed up

While updating from FBackup 4.8.276 to 4.8.278, I received error code 5, with 2 specific files fbaSched.exe and Starburn.dll. To solve this problem, I did exactly as zzpat did above and it worked for me as well.
You have to shut off the scheduler for all backup projects, exit FBackup, install new FBackup software (I did not uninstall old software), then turn on scheduler for all backup projects.

Given that Windows 8 is right around the corner, we have thoroughly tested FBackup on it to ensure full compatibility. Thus, a new build is available, FBackup 4.8.285, which includes several fixes:

Fix: FBackup stopped working in certain situations when the "Start at Windows Start-up" option was checked and the computer came out of hibernation
Fix: The "Getting Started" window was showing behind the main window when starting up.
Fix: FBackup froze when trying to run a scheduled task with that had the "Close after run" option checked
Fix: Built-in scheduler was not created on Windows 8
Fix: Backup open files was not working correctly

I am running Windows 7 64bit. Lately the program refuses to display screens, just a flash of bit of logo mid-screen and nothing. I see others have had this problem, posted over a year ago with no solution offered. What is the status now? I just upgraded from 4.7 to 4.8 hoping that would fix the problem. It didn't.
Many thanks!
