Giveaway - 50 licenses for Backup4all Pro

We are organizing a giveaway, where 50 licenses for Backup4all Professional (total value of $2500) will be given to 50 users. All you have to do is create a video tutorial about FBackup and upload it to Youtube - there is no drawing so as long as there are licenses left from those 50, you will receive one too. Zip64 viewer/extractor program

    The FBackup free software works really well. But I'm struggling to find a free zip64 program that will allow me to view/extract the FBackup zipfile "offline". The normal 7-Zip program doesn't recognise it. There is a 7-Zip 64-bit program available, but when I try to install it I am told my processor does not support it (I'm using a Windows PC with an "x86 Family 6 Intel processor at 2400MHz" according to my System Info). However the PC type isn't relevant - it's the machine that the FBackup created the zip file on, so what is the zip64 program buried within FBackup - is it free to users too?

    Hi,

    As I understand from your post, you are trying to install the 64-bit edition of 7-Zip to a 32-bit host computer. You cannot do that. Please try to install the 32-bit edition of 7-Zip.

    Thanks for your reply Admin. I have already anticipated this reply because, while that may be the ptoblem with the 64-bit 7-Zip program, the FBackup program somehow created a zip64-format archive on my 32-bit host computer! If FBackup can do this then there must also be a stand-alone program that can run on a 32-bit computer and create, extract or just view a zip64-format archive. Or am I missing something?

    Hi,

    The 64-bit OS and zip64 file format are not related.

    The original ZIP format had a 4 GiB limit on various things (uncompressed size of a file, compressed size of a file and total size of the archive), as well as a limit of 65535 entries in a ZIP archive. In version 4.5 of the specification (which is not the same as v4.5 of any particular tool), PKWARE introduced the "ZIP64" format extensions to get around these limitations increasing the limitation to 16 EiB (264 bytes). ZIP64 support is emerging. For example, the File Explorer in Windows XP does not support ZIP64, but the Explorer in Windows Vista does.

    Thanks Admin, that confirmed what I suspected.

    Unfortunately the program does not allow you to view the zip64 file contents without extracting them, which is a little inconvenient. The same appears to be the case with the FBackup free edition: you can only "Restore" the files (another word for extracting them).

    Unless I've missed somethign, is there a facility within FBackup to just view the files within a zip64 backup without first restoring them?

    Apologies for the hassle by the way - FBackup is actually a very useful free program - I do appreciate your making it available! Thanks again.

    Hi,

    You cannot see the zip file contents with FBackup, you need to restore it.
