Since installing build 143, I get the following message each time I try to run a backup. "VSCSRV.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close."
FBackup reports the backup was successful.
Do I need to be concerned or do anything about this error?
We are organizing a giveaway, where 50 licenses for Backup4all Professional (total value of $2500) will be given to 50 users. All you have to do is create a video tutorial about FBackup and upload it to Youtube - there is no drawing so as long as there are licenses left from those 50, you will receive one too. Here are the details: Backup4all Giveaway.

Hi,
Please send us a screen-shot with that message to info[at]fbackup[dot]com
Hi;
I sent the basic error screen and the two related detail screens.
Hope it helps. I have installed Build 145 and still get the same error.

Hello.
I have the same problem as the original poster. I installed FBackup (build 153) and started to use it. The first 3 backup jobs (docs, photos and videos) went smoothly. Today, when I made a "Documents and settings" backup and a Firefox profiles backup both times I received this error message from Windows. This has to deal with the "shadow copy" part of the beginning of the backup. the actual backups went smoothly.
What could be the problem ? Even if everything OK, it is annoying to receive this error message everytime I try FBackup in the future...
Regards
(edit: I think I found at least a reason. The error only appears when I try to do a backup from files located on my "C", system hard drive. Jobs backing up files from a second, non-system hard drive (like my documents, Photos, Videos), did not and do not get errors)
Hi,
We don't have such problems here.
It seems the Volume Shadow Copy does not work correctly on all your drives.
I am having this same exact problem with XP x64...
Here is the picture of the error details:
Yes, same exact problem again with the same exact offset as shown above.
Hello Admin...
Since this didn't work, do you have any other suggestions?? Is there any information that I can provide you to help determine the problem?
Hi,
Please send us the last backup log from "View->Job Logs->Last backup log" to info[at]fbackup[dot]com
Backup logs sent.
I have been having the same problem everyone else is.
I downloaded and installed Build 167 and I thought that had fixed it. My scheduled backups started running and I didn't get the error any more . . . until last night.
The backup ran successfully at 0100 hrs. The machine was in screen saver when at 0120 hrs it exited screen saver and painted the FBackup screen. I figured it must be a clock problem that had delayed the backup but then it drew a familiar error dialog. The error always occurs after the backup has completed and only if it has run, never when it misses a scheduled backup. I opened the error log and found the following entries:
Thursday, 12 November , 2009 Applicatio n Error Faulting application vscsrv.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module vscsrv.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000b37b7.
Thursday, 12 November , 2009 Applicatio n Error Fault bucket 1441000036.
Thursday, 12 November , 2009 DrWatson The application, C:\Program Files\Softland\FBackup 4\VscSrv.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 11/12/2009 @ 01:21:04.264 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 004B37B7 (VscSrv)
I am running Windows XP Media Edition that is patched to the gills.
Whenever this error occurs Windows hangs on the Shutting Windows Down screen and my USB ports stop working. After I turn the power off and restart the machine everything is normal again until I get the next VscSrv.exe error message.
Hi,

I also have this problem, although it doesn't seem to prevent the backup job from proceeding ok. I'm also using XP x64, so I wonder if it relates to this operating system?
I already have build 171 installed and am still getting the VSCSRV error. Any ideas?
Hi,
Please download the latest version of FBackup 4.3 build 179. Let usk now if you still have the problem.
I'm sorry to say it's still with me.
I have also tried build 179. When I execute the backup, and it says preparing to start Shadow Copy, I get the error.
Hi,
Please make sure the Volume Shadow Copy service is started and set to Manual.
I'm new to the forum and just found this thread.
I too am occasionally getting the error during a backup: "VscSrv.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
I have FBackup 4.4 build 213. (XP SP-3 32 bit)
I see the last admin post was 6 months ago. Is there a fix for this problem?
(I can't find any "manual" settings for "Volume Shadow Copy service" mentioned above.)
Hi,
Please follow these steps to set the Volume Shadow Copy to manual:
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Services.
Make sure the “Volume Shadow Copy” service is started and set to Manual.
It is set to "Manual"
Other reasons for this "VscSrv.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error?
We found that for some OS, the error appears. We will fix that problem.
With latest FBackup update (installed today), the vscsrv.exe error occurs. This happens even when Volume Shadow Copy is started before the update, after the update and then restarted again. Somehow it appears to get turned off- it still reads "started" but it gives the error message and has the option to restart - not after every backup session but intermittently throughout the day. This is a Windows 7 OS.
Hi,
The new release with the fix is not ready yet.
Hello, I am using a clean install of Windows 7 (upgrade from VISTA, but install wiped all of that out), and the VscSrv2008.exe has stopped working error still exists.
I had just decided to uninstall my former backup software and go with this one, but, if this error is going to still keep causing problems and not be fixed anytime soon, I don't think I can.
Do you have any idea when this issue might be fixed? Months, longer?
We REALLY appreciate your software, but anxiously await a fix to this issue.
Thank you!
Donna
Hey, I don't know if you are aware of it, but the same problem exists in Backup4All Professional. I don't know if the data below will help you solve the issued in FFbackup, but I have posted it here, just in case, because it is obviously related:

Report this postReply with quoteVscSrv2008.exe crashes
by Panos » Thu Jul 08, 2010 1:13 am
S/W: Backup4All Professional version 4.4.0.213 unregistered (VscSrv2008.exe has no File Properties and, in particular, no File Version)
O/S: Vista Ultimate SP2 32-bit
I tried FBackup4 for a week, liked it and am now evaluating Backup4All Professional. I've already tried Mirror and Full types and have just set up a combination Full, Diff and Incremental.
I am backing up to an external HDD and the only problem I have so far is that a couple of minutes after a backup has started running (before it starts adding files and right about when VSS is started) Windows Error Reporting comes up to notify me that VscSrv2008.exe has crashed.
Here's what I get in the corresponding Event Log - Application Error entry:
Faulting application VscSrv2008.exe, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4c288582, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e03821, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000afaf8, process id 0xd48, application start time 0x01cb1e201902294e.
You may find the exception code useful. There is a WER report as well.
The crash does not seem to affect the progress of the backup. Files are getting added and the backup completes successfully. I have done no comprehensive testing but I can navigate through the backed up file structure and open up any number of backed up files. No other exceptions are reported around that time. Even if I don't close the WER report, the backup continues.
What is the purpose of VscSrv2008.exe and is it possible to ascertain whether the crash happens before/after its work is done and whether it does affect the backup in some, perhaps not so obvious, way?
Thanks

Thanks, again, Donna
Hi,
The backup is successful even if that message appears.
The VscSrv2008.exe file is used to back up open files.
The problem will be fixed is few days.
Glad to hear the problem will be fixed in a few days.
However, that was posted 3 weeks ago, and I have not seen any FBackup updates since then.
Has there been one that I somehow missed?
Thanks...
