Hi,

I now understand your feature request. At this moment we don't have plans to add such a feature.

Regarding the "Close after backup" problem, please note in Backup Properties->Scheduler->Edit Properties, there is an option "Close after run". Please check it and FBackup will close after the backup is finished.
Please note this scenario works only if FBackup application is started by the scheduler, not if it was already running.

"I am not sure I understand correctly the second request. In Backup Properties->Mirror you have the option to "Remove excluded or deleted files from backup"."

When you are making a copy of your data to an external drive in the Mirror mode, it basically COPIES your files of the drives and folders I selected to the destination. There is also a check box I can set, so that it also REMOVES data from the Destination IF it no longer exists on the Source.

My feature request was that instead of checking that REMOVE setting for the whole backup script, that I can check it on or off as I add a source folder or drive.

Example:
One of my folders I add is My Documents, and if I don't want FBackup to delete files from the destination in case I need them later.

Another folders would be my Windows Live Mail and Firefox folders. I DO want FBackup to add and DELETE files from the destination to make an exact mirror of those folders.

Currently I have to choose if I want to use the Delete files from the Destination for all of the items I added to the script. My suggestion that that feature be put on the same screen as where you add files or folders, and that you could check that feature on a folder or drive as you add them to your backup script. I hope that is clearer :)

Also, as I have been using the program a few days now, I still really do like it as it completes in about 3-4 minutes and it is simple and clean. When I run scheduled backups, the program window comes on the screen. I don't care if it does or does not, but it does not close after the backup. After the backup is complete, *IF* there was a message the user needed to know, I would understand this, but the open screen is the same as if you just started the program.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions.

How many files and folders you have in sources? The time necessarily to check for new and modified files in sources depends on that.

I am not sure I understand correctly the second request. In Backup Properties->Mirror you have the option to "Remove excluded or deleted files from backup".

Scheduling a backup group feature is available only in our commercial edition: Backup4all

I tried many commercial and free programs to find one that will do what I want QUICK and EASY. For my disaster backup/recovery I choose Easus Todo Backup. I does an 18gig backup of my C drive in about 6 minutes, and I tested the restore at about 15 minutes from the boot with the CD I made.

As far as my data, FBackup does all of my requirements. I want a copy of my photos (lots!!), 2 iTune libraries, and the usual My Documents and email. FBackup neatly copies the folder and file structure to my USB drive in folders "C" "D" and "E". I actually backup to 2 USB drives and one job is a straight copy, and the other is a mirror that will also delete files from the target (no longer in the source). Schedule it all, and it's PERFECT!!!

I do however have 2 suggestions. One is that I already had all of my files copied to the destination drive, but FBackup took about 4-5 hours to complete and create it's index. I am guessing you should be able to inventory the source and destination to build a faster 1st index?

2nd, I like the way you can choose/add folders OR files. In the mirror/copy mode, it would be nice to be able to check off on the same dialog screen that you add files or folders if you want to delete target files no longer in the source. IF that is not possible, a work around would be to be able to schedule a backup to start after a current one ends instead of guessing how much time to allocate for the schedules. Actually, make that my 3rd suggestion, I like that idea :)

After the 1st LONG run, if I add about 40 photos, and of course my email files change, the run completes in about 3-4 minutes! Thanks again for a great program!!!

Real time backup..... I like that option in NTI shadow 5, but i think your soft is better, but it needs that option, it's very usefull.

When you are editing a word, excel, etc document...... inmediatily backup to the NAS folder i.e.
First time the backup is long, but next times, you only updates the files that you edit, modify or create in the folders that you have marked for backup.

I just had a CRC error on a large file, an external hash check confirms the source and the destination file are not the same. If I run the job again however, fbackup just flags the entire job as 'OK' - which of course it isn't, as there is a bad file on the destination dir.

It might be a good idea to let fbackup flag these files in the fkc index file, and keep trying on subsequent jobs until they are backed up successfully... Otherwise people might get some nasty surprises when restoring!

I have a suggestion that I feel with improve the already excellent FBackup utility.

I have 4 backup jobs, and run them each night with an auto-shutdown on the last job.

To do so, I use the "Group Backup" function in the taskbar.

When each of the 4 jobs are running, you can only see the status of the backup progress plus any messages regarding each job, only IF that job is highlighted by selecting it with a left mouse click.

I propose that with a GROUP BACKUP, each job is automatically selected as it's running and automatically cycles through the job list, so you can observe the progress and messages for each job in the group as they cycle through from top to bottom.

Thanks. Love FBackup !!!

I had to cancel the verification phase of a large backup job because I had to go away yesterday, but when I got back I found out that fbackup just takes the integrity of the backup for granted (even though it hasn't actually tested everything).
In the past I've also had the odd situation where for some reason there were major discrepancies between my laptop and the backup drive (mirror mode, set to propagate deletions). The simple fix would be to delete the backup location and both index files, but doing a large, several hour backup again just so fbackup runs its tests seems like a bit of overkill.

Would it be possible to include a manual 'test' option in a future version?
i.e. fbackup basically just going through the backup location and comparing them to the source files, and then either validating them or correcting differences.

Hello

I think FBackup is great! A few suggestions for improvement of the free version, if I may:

- it would be very good to be able to add multiple folders at once, rather than having to use the Add Folder button for every single folder. I know that drag&drop is only supported in the paid version, but what I'm suggesting is a simple checkbox next to each file/folder, which can be ticked if the user wants that file/folder as part of the source

- if a file is deleted in the source, the corresponding file in the destination can also be deleted during a backup, or can be kept for a number of days after the source has been deleted. This should really be a setting under Preferences...

- being able to set the main program thread priority

- display Estimated Time Left

Thanks!

Hi,

I really like FBACKUP, use its mirror mode many times, and also check the "Remove excluded or deleted files from backup" option.

However, as its name says, it only removes files.. but what if I change the folder structure of the source? E.g. I move some files to a different folder, and delete the original folder. FBACKUP will delete the files correctly, but will not delete the folder at the destination location!
To make it a real mirror backup, please add the option to delete folders as well!

2. Is it possible to switch off Testing at the end of backup process?

Thanks,
Bz.

Hello,

we can use Environment Variables in destination folder field but I would have like to save in a folder with the date of the day I make the backup, so can you do something to put in the destination folder the date (for example dd-MM-aa)?

Thanks

Please add a Pause button that lets one pause an extended backup to perform another resource intensive activity then resume where it left off.
