Hi
I've just found out why the Log Folder is so large. It seems I backed up everthing apart from Windows itself. So a real everything apart from the kitchen sink. I think that explains the problem.

Hi,

How large is the log file?
To find it, go to View->Job Logs->Open log folder.

using FBackup Version 4.5 Build 229.
just bought new Verbatim external hard dreve.

FBackup works ok and does the job until the end when it ask whether I wish to see log.
If I say Yes or No, FBackup just sits there and although I can move the cursor, cannot close Fbackup or any part of system. Can only shut down by Windows XP Task Manager. I get the box saying FBackup not responding. I have to restart computer to get things back to normal.

If I use a competitors backup program, problem doesnt occur.

Any advice

Hi,

You cannot disable the log files. The options to limit the size of the log is available only in our commercial edition: Backup4all.

Hi,

Every backup that was executed will create a log file. Please make sure you selected that job and pressed the Backup button. After that, the log file will be created.

Thank you admin. Unfortunately, when I right-click on the backup and select Job Logs-> the “Last Backup Log” and the “Last Restore Log” are ghosted out. The same is true if I select the “Mirror C Drive” icon and go to the View menu and choose Job Logs. The “Open Log Folder” option is available.

The backup is named “Mirror C Drive”, so if I search the FBackup.log file I find entries and they all show warnings. I just don’t know what those warnings are, so I can't address them.

I have 3 backups configured. Two of them create log files, but the third doesn't, and I can't figure out how to configure the properties to create the log file. I'm getting error reports after the mirror process, but can't find out what they were.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dear SysAdmin, please add the following 4 items to the wish list.

Item 1) can you please add a pruning option where a user can specify how many days of log files to keep. As far as I can see, log files are NEVER deleted! I think this parameter should be places in the Tools/Options window.

Item 2) Run Fbackup as a service so that users don't have to be logged in for the backup to work.

Item 3) Give the option to run the backup job in the background so that it is visually invisible to the user. This way users cannot abort the backup.

Item 4) As part of a "Backup Job" property, when doing a "Make mirror" backup, please add an option where at a specific interval that this job is executed, do a "clear backup before run".

For the users that are not aware of this, when doing a Make mirror backup, the first time the job is executed, it does a full backup of the selected files. For subsequent backups, it only does an incremental backup (much faster). However, if you don't trust the state of the files on the destination, then it's a good idea to regularly force a full backup. Reasons for not trusting the destination is that Fbackup does not check if the data on the destination is still there. So if someone deleted some files on the destination drive, or if the destination drive was replaced, currently Fbackup will not detect that and will only copy changed files from the source to the destination...leaving you with only a partial backup.

Regards,
Pierre
