Hi,

The plugin is "FBackup configurations" and it can be found in the FBackup installation folder, under Plugins subfolder.

Thanks admin that helps a lot. I have looked but have been unable to find the plugin for FBackup jobs and settings. It doesn't seem to be in my installation or on the plugin page (http://www.backup4all.com/en/backup-plugins.html) for FBackup. What exactly is it called? Did I miss it somehow?

Hi,

Yes, the .fkc catalog file is the one you need to re-create the backup job in FBackup.
You can back up the FBackup jobs and settings using the predefined plugin.

I'm an Fbackup newbie, so please excuse any naive questions.

I've spent a considerable amount of time constructing my first backup job and I don't want to have to repeat that process if something goes wrong. I would like to backup the structure of the backup job, i.e. the file and folder names
that are to be included in the backup job. Is it the .fkc file, what I believe you folks call the catalog file, that contains that information? If that's correct and I save that file, could I import it into Fbackup to recreate the backup job?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You don't need to run the backup, just save the backup job with the new name and it will be updated in destination.

Thanks for the help and explanations.

One thing I want to make sure I have correct. You stated the following instruction above:

You need to rename in FBackup "Firefox Profiles" to "Firefox Profiles 2" and press Save. After that you open again Backup Properties and change the name of the job from "Firefox Profiles 2" to "Firefox Profiles". This way the backup catalog name will also be changed in destination.

Do I need to run a backup job after changing the job name, or just change the name > save > and change the name back?

Hi,

1. The name of that folder is fixed in the plugin.

2. The folder structure depends on the plugin for that application.
In this case, the Thunderbird and Registries folders cannot be combined.

It worked. Thank you very much.

I noticed something while taking these actions.

1) The backup "folder" names don't exactly match the corresponding catalog file names or the backup job names.

2) Thunderbird Profiles backup job splits the backup folders into two backup folders: Thunderbird and Registries. But only one catalog file called Thunderbird profiles.

Why is this?

Is it possible to 1) have the folder names match the backup job names? 2) Combine Thunderbird and Registries folders?

Hi,

I understand now you have in FBackup "Firefox Profiles" and in destination you have "Firefox Profiles(1).fkc". That happened probably because the Firefox Profiles.fkc in destination was in use by another application antivirus or something and cannot be accessed by FBackup during the backup.

You need to rename in FBackup "Firefox Profiles" to "Firefox Profiles 2" and press Save.

Thanks.

Since I have all backup jobs named the same on 4 computers, I would rather not change the names on this one PC if possible.

Are there some files I can delete on the PC, or, as a last resort, do a complete uninstall and reinstall to keep my backup job names the same?

What caused this?

I do 3 backup jobs which have worked well for months, and created 3 corresponding .fkc catalog files.

Then, the destination drive created duplicate CATALOG files with their names appearing like this example: Firefox Profiles, AND Firefox Profiles(1). There is still only one folder with my mirror files in them for each backup job. (3 mirror folders and 6 catalog files)

I deleted everything on the destination drive, and started from scratch, running all 3 backup jobs as I did the first time.

Now, I am not getting duplicate .fkc files (I am back to 3 catalog files), but the files names still end in (1).

I am assuming there are corresponding files on my C drive that are not matching up.

Is there some way to fix this by deleting a file or files on the C drive, or must I uninstall FBackup and start all over again?

Can you tell me what is causing this?

Addendum: I just found the fkcFiles Folder on the C drive (Documents and Settings\Application Data). That folder only contains the 3 original catalog files, not any duplicates.

@admin - It's not very helpful telling your users that FBackup never had a feature, when the screenshots seem to show the opposite.
@everyone
Here is my workround: I have created a backup for most of the icons so that they can be used for future projects. If someone is interested then I can post them somewhere so that you too can have the icons that FBackup used to have.

Waiting in hope for the return of this feature

Sorry I'm confused.

When I open FBackup, I can see my jobs in the left hand pane and a number of the jobs have non-default icons which I had changed in a previous version (e.g. people, shield, server/container symbol), although there were originally a lot available then.
I presume from your comment that this feature had since been removed or hidden. I've taken a quick look at the .fkc file using a SQLite browser, but can't find an obvious reference to the changed icon location.

Which version of FBackup can I use to alter the choice of icons?

Can you add this feature to your wishlist - ability to change icons for jobs (within FBackup)?

Can I manually edit the fkc file to point to other icons within FBackup (they do still work, I just can't appear to access them for FBackup)?

Your help is much appreciated

Hi,

The .fkc catalog file is stored in two locations: in the local catalog folder and in destination.
It is important to have this file in destination, near the backup. If your local hard drive crashes or you want to restore the files in another location, you will be able to open the catalog on another computer and restore the files using FBackup.
You can also use WinZip to open and extract the zipped backup files.

If you have problems with FBackup, you can send us the last backup log from View->Job Logs->Last backup log to info[at]fbackup[dot]com

Why do you have to pollute my backup folders with all of these Catalog *.fkc files. Put them in the install folder or App. Data folder but not scattered all over my hard drives.

I want clean backups that can be restored with or with out your program and this is not helping. I have to cleanup after you after every backup attempt even when the backups have failed to copy any files like they mostly do now.

This program looks nice and has an easy to use interface but doesn't work as advertised and makes a mess doing it.

Please fix this
