Hi,

In FBackup you can keep only one version of the backup.
If you want to keep multiple versions of the backup, please use our commercial edition: Backup4all

Dears,
I have installed the FBackup on Windows 2003 Server and its working fine.
My question/problem is that I want to take full backups of the folder on daily basis, I have scheduled it and it executes fine, the problem comes that when it takes backup on Day 2; it deletes the backup of day 1 (means previous day backup is deleted)!
So, how can I solve this problem, that each day is saved and available!

Waiting for advice...

I am in the process of backing up portions of three hard drives to a 1TB drive. I have an approximate total of 100GB of video, photo and music files on these drives. The backup has been going on for eight (8) days (DAYS!) now.

I know 100 GB is a lot of data, but eight days? I expect it will be another two days before this backup is completed.

Btw, all of the source drives are 7200 rpm, two are internal drives, the other is connected by USB. The destination drive is also USB.

Hi,

On a daily basis, you should use Mirror backup to copy only new and modified files.

Thanks!

Changing to the built-in scheduler worked a treat last night. This morning I have a successful backup message.

One more question if you have time - I am a bit confused about the difference between full back up and mirror back up. Is mirror the best to use from now on, so that it just adds any new files or files that have been changed? Does a full back up take much longer, and therefore not necessary to do on a daily basis? The descriptions given for each type of backup do not make it really clear (to me anyway) when or why to select one or the other. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

If you select "With Windows Scheduler" option in Backup Properties->Scheduler, you need to use your Windows login username and password.

If you don't have a password, you can use the second option "With Built-in scheduler" which does not require a password.

My hard drive was corrupted and replaced and FBackup 4.6 was started again but with a different username to the original one entered by the technician. A manual full backup worked the first day, but with 7 warnings. It was scheduled to then backup daily, but for a week now has not worked. When I try to edit the scheduler it won't accept any password and it also won't allow me to leave the password empty. I have tried all passwords that might be relevant, but none are accepted. I have tried using the original username and password but that is not accepted. I have changed to mirror backup but that still does not work. How can I get the backup to happen daily as required? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi,

If the backup is scheduled and FBackup is started by the scheduler, you have the option to automatically close it after run.
That option is in Backup Properties->Scheduler->Add->Close after run.

Hey guys,
Windows 7 Backup lagged the crap out of my computer and I just didn't feel overly trusting of it. Also it takes up heaps of space on my backup drive.

FBackup seemed like a powerful and lightweight solution. I set a full backup to happen every night at 5am, in hopes that after the first full backup, all nightly backups would only take a few minutes to update any files that were changed.

But it's currently 11am and it's only 75% through backing up - this is almost a week into the schedule. Every night has been the same.

Please let me know if there is anything you need to help troubleshoot this, or if there's a quick answer to it all :) Thanks!

Hi,

There is no option in FBackup to start a backup at computer shutdown. That feature is available only in Backup4all, our commercial edition.

In FBackup you can set the computer to shutdown after a backup execution.
To do that, open Backup Properties->Advanced.
In the "Run action after backup" section, select Shutdown.
Press Save.

I recently installed this (v4.6) on a friends computer. on Windows XP.
We were looking for an option to do backup on Shutdown - so that when he clicks the Shutdown Windows button (Start menu) it would backup his data first.

The Titan backup he was using used to do that (but it expired and GFI replacement looks a mess...).
I thought that one of the older versions of FBackup I had seen used to have a Backup-on-Shutdown, but does not seem to be there in latest 4.6 version we tried.

I searched here, but no posts recent, only an old one saying it is on the wish list.

Will that be available soon?
Or did I miss where that setup is located.

Hello,

FBackup is a great product and I am just trying it out for a bit before buying Backup4all to let me use my network drive in both directions. I have been backing up my hard drive to a network drive for a couple of weeks now and it has been working great.

A couple of days ago however, the backups started aborting with:

[4/21/2011 10:16:52 PM] Error: Backup aborted. Reason:
Adding files and folders from the network is not allowed.
Backup aborted at 4/21/2011 10:16:53 PM with 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)

I had not made any changes to my source list but, even so, I rechecked it carefully and there are no network drives listed in the source. I next unchecked all source files except a single one on my hard drive and was still aborted with the same error.

Finally I created a new backup job specifying the same source set as before and that seems to be running fine, though I won't know for sure till tomorrow.

To have my backup job suddenly start aborting leaves me a bit worried as to reliability.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

If you selected the Full backup type, all files will be backed up each time. If you use the Mirror backup type, only new and modified files will be backed up.

If you want to create zip archives with only new and modified files each time you run the backup, you need to use the Incremental backup type.
That feature is not available in FBackup but only in our commercial edition: Backup4all
