I am using Fbackup 4.6 and I have scheduled this software to run at system backup. Whenever I start my computer, the homepage with two options of backup (run backup job) and restore (restore from backup) appears and I have to click backup button on my own. Then only a task starts. All I want this software to run its own, automatically backup only as soon as homepage appears and I should not be bothered to click backup button.

Is there an addon to backup Windows Live Mail? Where Does anyone know what the directory structure is that Windows Live uses. From what I have been able to see Live uses different directories than Outlook, and I would like to not miss any that may not be named obviously.

thanks Tony

I have a quick Question regarding the backup process of PSTs. PSTs can become very large as users continue to add emails to them. I know FBackup does only the changes in files from the initial full backup (which is exactly what i want it to do), but my question is does it backup the PST in full each time or is the program designed to only backup the changes inside the pst.

Example.
Archive.pst is 1gig in size after initial backup. over the course of the next week the user moves 500MB of emails into Archive.pst making it's size 1.5gig. The next time FBackup is scheduled to run will it copy over that 500MB of new emails into the old 1gig file or will it just see the file as changed and backup the whole file again?

Did a mirror backup of over 5000 files. An hour later, ran the same backup job again, and it backed up only 3 files. These were the only 3 files I accessed in the interim. Isn't this in fact a differential backup? Will it continue to backup only the changed files from this point on. That is exactly what we are looking to do.

Every description of the Refresh function I have found says "reloads the backup catalog"

Please elaborate on what that means. Does it mean a complete recreation of the backup is made? If not, does it compare the source with the backup and delete any files not in the source and add any files not in the backup and recreate the database so it reflects the additions and deletions?

Back in May I posted about this problem and an FBackup tech remotely accessed my computer and evrything worked fine. Well, it turns out the problem is that daily logs are over written the next day. If I do multiple backups in the same day the logs are NOT over written. So naturally things worked fine when the tech remotely accessed my computer and did several backups.

When I open VIEW | JOBS LOGS | OPEN FOLDER I see two logs. One is the Monthly log that I run on the 1st day of each month (it backs up the entire C: drive) and the last daily log. That is all the logs that are in the folder. Is there some folder naming convention I need to follow to prevent the previous days log from being over writen?

Thanx.

Hi, hope you can help

I'm getting this message
Backup cannot continue
Not enough disk space
Insert another disk and retry or cancel backup

The backup seems to be complete at 100% but then it comes up saying splitting zip file, this runs for a while and then the message above appears.

There is plenty of space on the removable disk so it is not full!

cheers

I was having an issue with an encryption password. When I enter the password to restore files it would say it was incorrect and just add the folders to the computer and not the files. I than went to try to remove the password and it seem to take the password here, but than I clicked on save and run and it seem to run another back up and overwrite my back up from my external HDD with just the empty folders.

Is there anyway to go back and get the files back or are they permanently gone?

Hi, Just downloaded your app yesterday. I created a backup of selected files on the C: drive prior to a reformat and installation of a newer version of windows(7 64 bit) (previously on Vista 32 bit). Prior to the reformat, I moved the ("New Backup")backup folder and the ("New Backup.fkc") file from the C: drive where I originally backed up to,to an external HD. After the new installation moved the folder and .fkc file back to the C drive. Tried restoring several times but no success. Then I selected (accidentally) Backup instead of restore on my next attempt:

Hello,

I am successfully backing up my computer's files to a NAS drive but not I need to backup the "My Documents" folder which is large and expansive with over 12K files and about 200GB. The NAS drive has plenty of space, the computer is running Windows 7 64-bit and there are no other programs running in the background.

I set fBackup to perform the backup. It takes awhile to get the list prepared (shadow copy I think) and then it starts to perform the backup. Unfortunately, at some point, which is never the same time, the computer blue screens and restarts. I only have this issue running fBackup. To be clear, fBackup is actually copying the files, but naturally once there is a crash it stops.

Here are some of the things I've already tried:

* Run the chkdsk program to make sure there are no errors.
* Turn off services like antivirus, etc.
* Plug the computer directly into the network where my NAS is located rather than using a slower wireless connection.
* Make sure the latest and greatest MS and fBackup software is installed.

Do you have any thoughts on why this is happening and how to fix the problem?

Thank you.

I do a nightly automated backup that includes three folder branches, two of the three are folders off the root (C:/) with many sub-folders of data. The third is the USERS folder tree (including all sub-folders). Sometimes the daily log shows SKIPPING FILE whateverpath because it could not be found. Judging from the chronology of the log, I assume FBackup found the file when it was creating the list of files to backup, but when it tried to add the file to the ZIP file, it was not able to find the file. Is this correct? Usually the skipped files are either log files, cookies or history files in the USERS tree. I assume Windows (Win 7 Pro 64 bit) for whatever reason erased these files and it is not of any consequence, but I wanted to check.
Thanx.

If I no longer want to save my exisiting files in Word 97-2003 [.doc] but choose to now save them instead in Word Document [.docx], will they still get backed up or do I have to include them individually in my source to back up?

I'm an Fbackup newbie, so please excuse any naive questions.

I've spent a considerable amount of time constructing my first backup job and I don't want to have to repeat that process if something goes wrong. I would like to backup the structure of the backup job, i.e. the file and folder names
that are to be included in the backup job. Is it the .fkc file, what I believe you folks call the catalog file, that contains that information? If that's correct and I save that file, could I import it into Fbackup to recreate the backup job?

Thanks in advance.

How can I set the scheduler so that, if I have the backup set for daily at 5:00pm, and the computer is off at that time, when I turn it on at say 7:00pm, it will then run the backup since it "missed" the actual time that day. I have other backup programs that have a setting for that that work that way. Thanks.

Trying to restore a mirror backup done to a usb drive on one computer, to a different computer. Error message says "Cannot find Favorites", please select another path". It's trying to restore to G:\C\Documents and Settings...", where G: is the usb drive letter, so of course this path doesn't exist. This usb drive was actually drive I when backed up on the first machine, so the 2nd machine assigns a different drive letter. If I search folder path and point directly to the folder on the 2nd machine (without the G: in the path), same message. If I "ignore all", the restore fails.

I have two Windows 7 pcs. PC 1 has a USB drive used for backups. On PC 2, I'm trying to get FBackup to backup to the USB drive on PC 1. Each time I try a test backup, I get an abort - permission denied. I have shared the USB drive and folders. Also have used PC 1 user name and password in the FBackup settings. Still fails. Any suggestions to resolve is greaty appriciated. Thanks Ron.
