Dears,
I have installed the FBackup on Windows 2003 Server and its working fine.
My question/problem is that I want to take full backups of the folder on daily basis, I have scheduled it and it executes fine, the problem comes that when it takes backup on Day 2; it deletes the backup of day 1 (means previous day backup is deleted)!
So, how can I solve this problem, that each day is saved and available!

Waiting for advice...

Have not had success with scheduled backups, tried using built in scheduler and windows scheduler, no difference.

This is what has been happening typically: Yesterday morning at about 6am I tried again, set backup of certain folders for 7:15am. It worked, program started at 7:15am and it backed what I wanted successfully. I had also set it to do that daily, so this morning when I checked, the scheduled backup did not run and gave an error message saying "<filename> is not a valid backup job" (or something like that.) This has gone on like this for a week or so now and I am unsure of what to do next. Thanks for any help you are able to give. Sorry if this has been asked beofre but I could not seem to find a similar posting.

I use Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (standard edition) and version 4.5 was installed recently on my pc by a professional. The backup is saved on an external drive. It does a backup of everything I have in "My documents" (which is on my C drive) and should also includes a backup of all my emails/address book. How can I confirm that my emails/address book are being backup. For "My documents" I know it is working as I can access the external drive and view my documents but I cannot access the folder related to microsoft as I get the following message: 'You are attempting to open a file of type ‘office data file’ (.pst). These files are used by the operating system and by various programs. Editing or modifying them could damage your system. If you still want to open the file click Open With otherwise click Cancel'. Any suggestions. Thank you

Just a quick question about how fbackup verifies the backup when "test after backup" is selected. Does it create and compare hashes or does it do something simpler (i.e. check to ensure file sizes are the same)?

I've been using FBackup for about a month or so now for a small server I run, and would love to say that it's a great program and recommend it for anyone.

I do have a question, however. Is it possible to create backups where the path includes the date of the backup? This would make it real convenient if I have to restore an older backup than the most recent. Essentially, I'd want a backup that looks as follows:

c:\Destination Folder + [date of backup]\

Is this possible to do? And if so, how?

I am in the process of backing up portions of three hard drives to a 1TB drive. I have an approximate total of 100GB of video, photo and music files on these drives. The backup has been going on for eight (8) days (DAYS!) now.

I know 100 GB is a lot of data, but eight days? I expect it will be another two days before this backup is completed.

Btw, all of the source drives are 7200 rpm, two are internal drives, the other is connected by USB. The destination drive is also USB.

My hard drive was corrupted and replaced and FBackup 4.6 was started again but with a different username to the original one entered by the technician. A manual full backup worked the first day, but with 7 warnings. It was scheduled to then backup daily, but for a week now has not worked. When I try to edit the scheduler it won't accept any password and it also won't allow me to leave the password empty. I have tried all passwords that might be relevant, but none are accepted. I have tried using the original username and password but that is not accepted. I have changed to mirror backup but that still does not work. How can I get the backup to happen daily as required? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Just used fbackup 4.6 (build 260) on Windows 7 64 bit to run my first backup and noticed that it changed the case of a folder name on the destination drive. I:\media became V:\MEDIA I haven't spent much time looking around, but so far this seems to be the only occurrence of a case change.

Now I want to delete FBackup4.5 files using the uninstall feature. Will this delete my scheduler now in 4.6 if so what is the work around?

Hi,
After my last Backup,I received the message that the Backup was successful with 16 error warnings.I searched the log,but couldn`t see any errors, but there again, the log was so huge I could have missed them.

I have a daily backup scheduled for each day of the week. So naturally, for example, when the Monday Daily backup runs it over writes the Monday backup daytaand log file. I would expect that.

What I don't understand is that every night the daily log is writen over. So, for example, if the last log was for Monday, the log file name is Monday Daily_20110530xxxxx.backup.log. Tuesday night the Tuesday Daily backup runs and Tuesday morning the only log in the LOGS folder is Tuesday Daily_20110531xxxxx.backup.log. Monday (and all previous day's logs) are gone. Is that normal? All 7 of the daily backups are setup as individual backup jobs, IOW there are 7 backup jobs (Monday thru Sunday) not one job with seven parts under SCHEDULE.

If I upgrade from Fbackup 4 to a new version in the future (I never did it, ...)

- Are my previous programmed backup tasks still going to be present in the new version program? Or I'll need to program them again?

- And are my corresponding backup datas going to be there too with their own catalog? ... and are they going to be accessible by the new version? Or I'll have to delete them and rebuild them with the new version.

Hi, I've been using FBackup for several years and it's an excellent product!

I've recently run into a problem when creating a mirror backup from one external drive (f:)(NTFS) to another (g:)(FAT32).  The source contains my iPhone/iPad backup directory. The backup runs for a few hours and completes about 70% successfully, but returns about 11000 warnings in the log file which state;

Destination error (code 82). The directory or file cannot be created. (G:\MobileDeviceBU\74e1b2ca1b145b8803cfca75417a8dffe00210cf-20111016-114905\fffdabcd3e3f03783a8728abdda29ec2136dcd36).
There are no problems with disc space. As indicated above, about 70% of the backup is written to the destination G: drive successfully.

I was running FBackup 4.6.253

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi all

If I set up a new mirror backup of a folder and save it to a location in which a carbon copy of the files already exists, will this prevent FBackup from re-copying all the files across again? i.e. will FBackup scan the existing files in the backup folder and only copy across additional or altered files?

I plan to use the software to backup a substantial music collection which is already duplicated on a separate drive and would hope to avoid the many hours it would take for FBackup to run a mirror backup.

I assume this means there are warnings, is that true? I always have some warnings when I check the logs (usually skipped files, but also have had verification test terminated).

I have been playing with computers since 1989, so I am not a novice. Yet for some reason I am confused about the overall BACKUP-RESTORE process. I understand the concepts, but the details seem to leave me wondering what to do in the event of a hard disk crash.

For example, I use Windows 7 Pro, and have used it's backup program to make a system image on an external USB drive. I used FBackup to make a FULL BACKUP of my entire hard drive, and then use FBackup to do a nightly scheduled backup of all data files.

In the event of a hard disk failure, how would I restore from my external USB drive?

The computer came with a set of restore DVD's as well as a restore partition on the hard drive (which would be useless in the event of a hard disk failure), but I can't get the computer to boot from the recovery DVD's (yes, I have set the DVD as the primary boot device in the BIOS), so I am at a loss. Any help/explanation is welcome.
Thanx.

According to page 26 of the FBackup User Manual (PDF file 2009) under the TOOLS > OPTIONS menu there should be a LOGS and history config window. I only see:

GENERAL

STARTUP

UPDATES

under the OPTIONS menu.

Is this a recent change or am I doing something wrong? I am looking into this because FBackup is over writing previous logs when it does a backup, so I only have the log for the last backup. The APPLICATIONS log keeps a running summary of all logs, but I got the impression each daily log should be available as well. Is this true?

Thanx.

Hello.

I'm running FBackup 4.6 Build 250 on Windows XP SP2. There are two things that I'd like to do that I can't seem to be able to get to work:

Start backup at Windows start, and shut down computer after backup finishes.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong here. Under Advanced - Run action after backup, I have selected Shut down. And under Scheduler - Properties, I have selected With built-in scheduler, and under Schedule, I have selected At System Startup.

When Windows starts, the program starts, but doesn't do any backups. When I run a backup manually, the computer does not shut down.

Might I be doing something wrong? Thanks.

When I do a full backup, often many files are skipped (last night 98 files were skipped, mostly system files).

If I have to do a complete restore(including the O/S, say the hard disk fails) will these missing files pose a problem?

Thanx,

I am totally new at backing up my data files and other files I want to keep. What I am trying to determine is after I set up my back up as a mirror type:

     a. Will it make a full backup of the folders I have selected?
b. On subsequent backups will it backup ONLY those files that are new or have been modified since the initial backup?
c. Will the free copy do this or do I have to download the professional copy
d. Will subsequent backups overwrite the original files or try to save the full backup plus the new or modified files?

I know that this is a subject that has probably been beaten to death but I still wanted to discuss further.

I know it has been stated that the user account running the scheduled task has to have admin rights to get proper VSS backup but I was wondering if anyone has come up with some sort of the solution to running a scheduled backup under user rights.

Maybe there is some policy change or service settings we can use to give the user/process specific rights to that task without having to give full blown admin rights. I know I've seen other processes accomplish this from other apps.

I'd like to get a solution that works for both XP and windows 7, even if its 2 different solutions.

Thank you in advance,

Hello,

I use FBackup with satisfaction but there is a small problem
with scheduler. With an administrator session, the scheduler
works perfectly but when it is in a user session, the scheduler
cannot execute the task.

Is this problem knownn or I make a mistake when progamming
the task ?

Thank you for your help

PS: I use windows 7 professionnal version (32-bits)

I have just started using Fbackup. I am backing data up to an external drive. I have it set to scheduled back up which runs daily. However, it seems to be taking two and half hours to back up.There isn't that much beind backed up.
I need to be able to back up to the exteranl drive and over write what is already on there but only back up what has changed that day.
I guess this means an incremental back up but I am not sure how to do it.
can you help
many thanks
