Hi,

In FBackup you can keep only one version of the backup.
If you want to keep multiple versions of the backup, please use our commercial edition: Backup4all

Have not had success with scheduled backups, tried using built in scheduler and windows scheduler, no difference.

This is what has been happening typically: Yesterday morning at about 6am I tried again, set backup of certain folders for 7:15am. It worked, program started at 7:15am and it backed what I wanted successfully. I had also set it to do that daily, so this morning when I checked, the scheduled backup did not run and gave an error message saying "<filename> is not a valid backup job" (or something like that.) This has gone on like this for a week or so now and I am unsure of what to do next. Thanks for any help you are able to give. Sorry if this has been asked beofre but I could not seem to find a similar posting.

Dears,
I have installed the FBackup on Windows 2003 Server and its working fine.
My question/problem is that I want to take full backups of the folder on daily basis, I have scheduled it and it executes fine, the problem comes that when it takes backup on Day 2; it deletes the backup of day 1 (means previous day backup is deleted)!
So, how can I solve this problem, that each day is saved and available!

Waiting for advice...

The .pst files can be open only by Outlook. You can compare the size and date of the file in destination with the size and date of the source .pst file.

I use Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (standard edition) and version 4.5 was installed recently on my pc by a professional. The backup is saved on an external drive. It does a backup of everything I have in "My documents" (which is on my C drive) and should also includes a backup of all my emails/address book. How can I confirm that my emails/address book are being backup. For "My documents" I know it is working as I can access the external drive and view my documents but I cannot access the folder related to microsoft as I get the following message: 'You are attempting to open a file of type ‘office data file’ (.pst). These files are used by the operating system and by various programs. Editing or modifying them could damage your system. If you still want to open the file click Open With otherwise click Cancel'. Any suggestions. Thank you

I've been using FBackup for about a month or so now for a small server I run, and would love to say that it's a great program and recommend it for anyone.

I do have a question, however. Is it possible to create backups where the path includes the date of the backup? This would make it real convenient if I have to restore an older backup than the most recent. Essentially, I'd want a backup that looks as follows:

c:\Destination Folder + [date of backup]\

Is this possible to do? And if so, how?

I am in the process of backing up portions of three hard drives to a 1TB drive. I have an approximate total of 100GB of video, photo and music files on these drives. The backup has been going on for eight (8) days (DAYS!) now.

I know 100 GB is a lot of data, but eight days? I expect it will be another two days before this backup is completed.

Btw, all of the source drives are 7200 rpm, two are internal drives, the other is connected by USB. The destination drive is also USB.

Please note FBackup does not preserve the case for each name. If there are two files/folders with the same name, only the fist one is stored "MEDIA" and the second one ("media") will have the same uppercase as the first one when restored.

Hi,

FBackup 4.6 installed over 4.5 version.
There could be a overwritten permission issue, that is why you cannot install it in the default folder.
You just need to manually delete the old folder in Program Files and continue running FBackup from the new folder.

Just a quick question about how fbackup verifies the backup when "test after backup" is selected. Does it create and compare hashes or does it do something simpler (i.e. check to ensure file sizes are the same)?

OK, after months of fooling with this, I have found that **IF** I do several backups in THE SAME DAY all the log files are in the log folder. However, doing a backup on each day causes the previous day's log to be overwritten with the current day's log (the file names are different).

Not sure why I am the only one on the planet with this problem, but that happens to me a lot, so it must be me :-)

I only have two files in my log folder - FBackup.log (listing of all backups run since the file was last purged) and the daily log for the last day that a daily was run. Today I have a third log for the monthly backup I just did manually but it will probably be gone tomorrow.

I will change the attribute of today's log to read only and see what happens tonight.

Thanks!

Changing to the built-in scheduler worked a treat last night. This morning I have a successful backup message.

One more question if you have time - I am a bit confused about the difference between full back up and mirror back up. Is mirror the best to use from now on, so that it just adds any new files or files that have been changed? Does a full back up take much longer, and therefore not necessary to do on a daily basis? The descriptions given for each type of backup do not make it really clear (to me anyway) when or why to select one or the other. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

If you select "With Windows Scheduler" option in Backup Properties->Scheduler, you need to use your Windows login username and password.

If you don't have a password, you can use the second option "With Built-in scheduler" which does not require a password.
