A UNC path (\\router name\shared folder\folder name). I get from 12% to 50% into the backup when it just stops and I get the same error. Just using the default plug-ins and backing up mixed file types. Thanks!

I am using FBackup 4.7 using the Full Backup option.

I had an issue and tried to restore. The restore failed, saying a password was required. But no password had been set!

In observing the restore, I noted that the restore worked fine until it hit the hiberfil.sys file. At that point, it asks for a password and no more files are restored...

It starts out fine:

I've been trying to use FBackup on our network but it never makes it through a backup. Each time I get a
"The specified network name is no longer available (While writing compressed file in zip)"
error. I have a 1TB hard drive attached as a NAS to a Linksys E3000 router. I've tried smaller and smaller backups but still hit the error. Possibly other network traffic? I do manually copy files to the drive without any issues (Windows 7, Dell with AMD Phenom II, 8GB RAM, 1TB drive. I'm not sure what other information is important and what's a waste of time.

Hi,

FBackup does not keep track of multiple file versions, so only the latest version for each file is preserved.
If you want to restore the latest version, that is the only version stored. You cannot select only the backup execution from one date. Those features are included in our commercial edition: Backup4all

Hello,

I am new to FBackup but not backing up data. I read a lot of great things about FBackup but thus far my experience hasn't been very good.

I am trying to backup pretty much everything except Windows etc. on my Dell Laptop with a 250Gb drive. So far, every time I create a "large" backup, such as 60Gb's FBackup gets to the 58% mark a crashes. When I look in the folder where the back up has been sent to on a 750 Gb ext. drive, the size of the file is 33.7Gb. I have ran three jobs of similar size and the result is a file that is exactly the same size each time, although I have selected different files each time. One backup of 63GB and one that was larger each created a 33.7Gb file on the ext drive. Both though have "crashed" at 58% according to FBackup.

The log doesn't say that it has crashed. The last entry just states "Adding file etc etc etc. But the application is non responsive and the machine has to be shutdown forcefully.

I have ran a small backup of one folder of about 4mb's that is fine.

Any ideas as to why the large backup fails? Also should note that for it to reach that point it takes hours, which isn't unusual for a large back up, but it will just sit there once it reaches that point that it has to be shut down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
M. Walker

i did a restore and fbackup restored all files and folder rather than just the ones that are different. i know this because i have many files that haven't been touched for quite a while and so there's no obvious reason why the software should consider them as having been modified in any way.
is this supposed to happen?
i would have thought it would only restore files and folder that are different.
the options i used are:
Use Original Location ***
Restore the latest version of all files ***
I'm running the program and the program is telling me that the file / folder exists and asking me if I want to replace it or skip it.
This occurs even though the restore file has the same date and time as the current file.
Should it even ask if the files are the same - i would think it should automatically skip that file if it wasn't changed from the version on the backup.
Since i already told it to restore the latest version of the file, shouldn't it do all of that automatically without prompting me?
i'm working with windows 7 home edition 32 bits on a toshiba pc.

Ran into the same problem as the first guy.....banged my head against a wall for a while. Then I discovered that if I copy the .fkc from the backup (In my case it was a NAS device on the network) to the desktop of the machine I am restoring to and have fbackup installed on, presto it restored the folders and FILES.

Just thought I would post so that it may help someone else.

I am having a similar problem. I was backing up files from FBackup to an external Verbatim drive. The computer crashed. I connected the Verbatim drive to another computer and could see the FBackup files for each instance that a backup was done. I had to unplug the Verbatim drive (USB) and then plug it back in and when I did, the computer is now reading it as "New Drive". The are very few files on there and I do not see the FBackup files. There is a folder called 20120509-195931_LocalAutobackup but all that I see is other folders under that with some drivers and log files.

Have I lost my FBackup files. How do I get them back? I have installed FBackup on the spare computer but cannot see how to do the restore from the external Verbatim drive.

Thank you

Hi,

Please make a backup for FBackup configurations using the plugin from FBackup.
You can open the catalog from destination on the new computer and run the restore there.

/on rant/ I don't know why Windows 7 hides these tasks. I can't easily find them through the control panel. /off rant/

I just bought a new laptop and would like to set up the same backup job on the new machine. I ran the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to move most of the old machine's files, profiles, users and folders. I installed FBackup on my new unit.

However, the jobs that were saved and running on the old machine did not show up when I ran FBackup on the new box.

My question for the forum is

1) Where are the files located.
2) What/how should I move them to the new machine to maintain the same jobs and schedule? (After the process is complete the new machine and backup jobs should have the same name as the old ones and the old ones will be "scrubbed" to remove all data.)
3) I'd like to do a final backup on the old machine and restore on the new one to make sure any files that have been added or changed since Easy Transfer are available on the new box.

In point 7, it states:

"7. Click the “Browse” button to select the program from the location where it is installed. If you want to create a task to run some other program then you should go to that program’s folder and choose its exe file."

The guidelines found within the document whose link I have attached above assume that the application is already installed on the hard disk.

I note that Backup4All is not loaded on my hard disk. To be sure, in case I missed something, I did a search on my HDD--no Backup4All retrieved.

Therefore, as I believe YOU to be expert on Backup4All, would you be kind enough to indicate to me how I am to now proceed?

Thank you.

Hi,

If you read above, in the first replies, I told you about Control panel, Task Scheduler location. There you can find both Windows and FBackup schedulers.

Hi,

The file extension is preserved after restore. If you have .vhd extension in the restore location, that means you backed up a .vhd file.
FBackup does not change the file extensions.
