Backup to Label not to drive letter (Windows)

Postby abrimaal » Thu Aug 09, 2018 5:34 am

I have more removable drives than USB ports in my PC.
The backup destination is defined by a drive letter. When I unplug a backup drive and plug another in the same port, then plug the backup drive in any free port, the letter of the backup drive often changes.
The whole process is lost until I revert the proper letter in a drive manager, but often this letter is already taken by another drive currently in use.

Can I assign a drive label, that is always constant, instead of a variable letter for backup?
To make a mirror copy without compression to a drive <LABEL> any time the drive is plugged in.

Hi,

Please connect the destination drive and make sure it has the correct drive letter assigned.
Then open FBackup and go to Backup Properties->Destination->External drive (or Removable)
Select the "Lock the destination to this external hard drive" option and press Save.

Thank you for your reply. I checked the option "Lock to this drive"
The location of the backup is drive K: label KRABRO.
If I disconnect the drive after backup and connect again after some time, the drive may be connected as N: KRABRO (for example)
Will the next backup be performed to drive K: (whatever drive is plugged as K:) or to volume KRABRO?

Hi,

If the drive letter is changed, the serial number of the destination drive will be used to identify it. FBackup will run the backup to the correct drive even if the drive letter is changed.
